Craft vs Commercial Cannabis – What’s the diff Biff?
Craft Cannabis is much like it sounds. It is produced by smaller grow facilities who cultivate smaller crops of flower. There are certainly higher overhead costs involved with growing craft cannabis as nothing is purchased or done in bulk format. To be designated a craft cannabis producer in Ontario, a grower cannot grow more than 10,000 kg’s of crop per annum. In fact, the OCS has recently created a Craft growers seal that is used to identify hand crafted small batch flower on their website.
Craft growers usually offer rare and unique strains based on their growers’ personal preferences and direct customer feedback. These growers really concentrate on quality over quantity. Their flower is hang dried, hand trimmed and hand packaged with love. Nothing is rushed and many true cannabis connoisseurs would argue the extra love and interesting strains are well worth the extra money.
On the other hand, commercially produced cannabis is a term that is used to describe large corporations and growers who produce as much product as possible as quickly as possible. Think massive grow rooms with machine trimmed and packaged products. While all growers are held to high standards, for the most part large scale cannabis producers still deliver a decent quality product.
But their end goal is almost always to produce quantity versus quality. Commercial cannabis is typically cheaper to buy because it’s more economical to grow, but the selection and rare qualities are rarely found coming from big corporate grow ops.
But weed is weed, no? I mean, it wasn’t that long ago we were all still buying weed and hash from our local dealer, right? Maybe some dude who was growing it in his basement or out in farmers field somewhere with generally little or no regard to quality. But these days, with so many growers and choices available, it’s not too much to ask for quality from all producers. That said, Craft growers are still the best option for high quality as they take real pride in their crops and the fruits of their labor are a superior product. It’s that simple.
Some Craft Cannabis growers carried at Soul Rebel include Msiku, Flint and Embers, Tantalus Labs, Cali, Mood Ring, BC Green, Carmel, Pura Vida, Panorama, The Loud Plug and Weed Me.
